[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/6″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]The Lombok earthquakes have taken their toll. Some 500 people have died as a result of the natural disaster and hundreds of thousands have been left homeless. There is also considerable damage and sorrow in Duduk Atas, the village where we have been supporting a school for the past 10 years. Some 15 people did not survive the disaster and the damage is enormous. It is a small comfort, but the emergency relief from Face This has now arrived.
Trauma
Food, drink and tenting from Face This has been offered to the head of the village together with relief supplies from other organisations. Mark Heyward, our partner there, handed over the supplies. For many, the tenting is the only way in which the villagers can and want to have a roof over their heads. The earthquakes have caused considerable psychological trauma. Nobody dares to live under a stone roof, from fear of another earthquake.
Kids are scared to go to school
Help from Face This
The help Face This can offer all depends on the amount of money we can collect. Ideally, we would like to help not only the school but also the families around the school in the reconstruction of their village. After all, these are also “our” kids and teachers. But with a limited budget, we are forced to make choices and set priorities. And top of the list is the school itself. The first thing we will focus on is the rebuilding of the school. All the other funding we receive will be used to contribute to the reconstruction of the village.
The epicentre of the earthquakes was in North Lombok. That is where the most damage occurred. And the aid that is offered is concentrated around this area. Our school is located farther to the west of the island. The aid for the Duduk Atas area is minimal – we, together with our partners, are the only party committed to helping Duduk Atas. Any help is more than welcome. For the devastation in the village is no less than in North Lombok.
Already collected
Until now we have, since the launch of our special edition T-shirt, sold more than 100 shirts. The proceeds go directly to Lombok. A shirt costs 27.95 euro and only the cost price of 11 euro is deducted. The rest (16.95) is used to benefit the Duduk Atas community. In addition, we are holding a fund-raiser which currently has collected 1665 euros. Would you like to make a donation? Then go directly to the action page!
Please help
In the days ahead, we will be receiving a more detailed calculation about the damage to the school. Then we will know how much of the budget is over and what we can then contribute to the reconstruction of the village. We really need your help. Would you like to make a donation? We have developed three simple ways for helping the Duduk Atas community.
