Marc David design story

German artist Marc David designed a T-shirt, tote bag, and sweater in collaboration with Indonesian school kids. Read all about him!

For this month’s drop, artist Marc David collabed with Azra, a 6-year-old pupil from the SDN 4 Batu Putih school in Gili Asahan. Azra loves spending time with her family. To illustrate this, she drew a meal that she often has with her family. All proceeds from the merch sales will go towards helping Azra's school.

Marc David

Marc David is an artist based in Stuttgart, Germany. He is most well-known for his abstract illustrations, full of colour and optical illusions. He admits that he never sketches his drawings beforehand and prefers to be surprised by his own art instead. He recently published his own sketchbook, “Marc David Sketchbook”, which encompasses his art between now and 2017. His impressive and eye-catching designs have turned the heads of Hermès, Vans, BW Bank, Google’s Material 3, and Warby Parker, among others. His extensive list of incredible projects made us all the more excited to have him design an illustration for Face This!

  • Why Marc David wanted to design a Face This T-shirt

“I was immediately excited about it because I enjoy collaborating with other people. And I hadn’t done any collaborations with children before, so my expectation was to have fun experimenting in a new way.”

  • Marc David on Indonesian kids’ drawings

“Children and beginners are much freer in their approach. When you’ve done a lot of drawings you tend to repeat yourself and follow specific rules that you have in mind.”

  • How Marc David designed his Face This T-shirt

“I just refined Azra’s drawing and added some colours. The composition and the topic were already given by her. It’s like she made the sketch, and I realised it.”

How Stina Persson and other artists collab with Indonesian school kids

At Face This, artists creatively collab with Indonesian school kids on T-shirts, totes and sweaters. And as the proceeds benefit their school, the kids literally design their own future.
