Anisa (12)
Pulau Sapi, Indonesia
Anisa is a 12-year-old pupil at SDN 004 Mentarang, living in the small town of Pulau Sapi in North Kalimantan. Anisa loves her best friend, whom she misses dearly. Although her friend now lives far away, she fondly remembers that they respected each other when they played and that her friend “never played rough”.
Petra Eriksson

Petra Eriksson is a talented Swedish artist, currently based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This isn’t her first rodeo at Face This. A drawing based on the theme of ‘friendship’
For his drawing, Anisa (12) was given the theme of friendship. The goal of the exercise was to see what friendship means to her and how she would visually depict the essence of it. Anisa drew herself and her best friend, with the caption ‘My best friend. She is so pretty and cute’. When we talked to her about her art, she said that unfortunately her best friend lives far away now, but that she enjoyed playing with her.
“It was a change in that last time I had so many amazing ideas to pick from, which in a way made it both easier and harder, because my task then became a lot more open. This time I had a much more defined brief which of course narrowed the options a bit but it also made it easier for me to find the visual direction quicker.”
Anisa’s answers on friendship all focussed on her best friend. It’s clear the bond that they share is very deep and special. Even though her friend now lives far away from her, Anisa still thinks fondly of this friendship. This showed us that distance is not what defines friendships for Anisa and that her friendship with her best friend is still strong despite the distance.
“It's been a great process! I really enjoyed the theme and Anisa had created a really beautiful drawing that inspired me as soon as I saw it. I feel very grateful that I was given the chance to co-create this piece and add a little bit more colour to the world.”
